About unhealthy vows and how you dissolve them

Many spiritual people have problems in their lives. On the one hand the spiritual attitude in an atheistic-materialistic society with pure “money making” orientation is not helpful but indeed contra productive. And on the other hand spiritual people often have a long history of spiritual dedication which includes several incarnations and corresponding problems. With a high probability many spiritual people lived as nuns, monks, spiritual knights, servants of church, etc. And such lives are based on a few vows up to countless vows.

As a Christian monk, knight or nun you had to make vows for a life in poverty, chastity and obedience. As a Buddhist monk or nun your way is based on countless vows.

Such vows have two aims. When you neglect important aspects of life then you are free for spiritual training and service. And when you swear to serve higher ideals then you can receive important blessings and support in your spiritual development. This opens doors which are normally closed.

On the other hand such vows can be quite unhealthy as useful and natural aspects of life are blocked which can easily lead to suffering.

For one incarnation such vows might be useful to provide special experiences and maybe good progress in the spiritual development. But for all further incarnations the negative vows of poverty, chastity and obedience are really bad. Vows are vows and they easily last longer than one incarnation. They become a part of our nature and “live” in the subconsciousness.

So it is not uncommon that spiritual people today have problems with finding a partner, with having sex, with making babies, with making money, with creating a good degree of financial and material abundance, etc. Also the obedience can be a problem as the concerned people were really trained to follow all commands without questioning them.

In fact these good souls are still today victims of the vows they made in former incarnations but as it is something subconscious they don´t realize the reason for their problems. So they struggle and fight and have no idea how to solve the problems.

Often the victims experience the bunch of problems which corresponds with the bunch of bad vows they made in their past. So this is a good indicator when you suffer regarding partnership or sex and financial issues that the reason for it are these vows from the past.

Now it is important to get rid of these vows as they block all progress. As a first step try to discover which vows might play a role for your individual situation. As I said already, it is often the whole bunch. But this depends on the order or tradition where you were a part of. Try to make a list of these vows. Then formulate a positive vow as the opposite of the old negative one.

Examples:

Instead of poverty:

“I call on God as my witness that I swear now to enjoy a life in financial and material abundance where I receive naturally all I need for happiness and fulfilment.”

“This new vow replaces my old vow about poverty which was limited to my former incarnation and has no validity anymore! So be it!”

Instead of chastity:

“I call on God as my witness that I swear now to enjoy a happy and fulfilling love life with the right partner.”

“This new vow replaces my old vow about chastity which was limited to my former incarnation and has no validity anymore! So be it!”

Instead of obedience:

“I call on God as my witness that I swear now to lead a life in self-responsibility.”

“This new vow replaces my old vow about obedience which was limited to my former incarnation and has no validity anymore! So be it!”

Probably it is enough to speak once these new vows. Check how you feel afterwards. Speak them with power and faith. If necessary then repeat them a few times until you feel a change in your mind and soul.

Now you are free for a happy life with all you need and wish for!
