THE LAISSEZ-FAIRE ATTITUDE OF CREATION

Creation is ruled by laws and principles. One main principle is that the human will is holy and with this untouchable, – at least in theory. In the reality of everyday life people manipulate others permanently to make them behave as it is beneficial for them. In addition to the principle of the free will it is necessary to say that the normal human being must evolve first to real adepthood to be able to experience the free will. Normal human beings are very limited in their ability to make free choices due to lack of maturity and due to being enslaved by subconscious drives.

This is already a problem which most people cannot understand as they are not aware about their limitations and the hidden, subconscious impulses which drive them in their lives.

For the spiritual path, this problem is even bigger. Free will means the “laissez-faire” attitude. Laissez-faire is French and is defined as one management style among others like the cooperative style and the authoritarian one. Laissez-faire means that it is completely left up to you how you want to manage a task, duty or challenge and in fact if you are willing to do so at all and in which time frame. It is the slogan “Do what you want!” (And no one cares!).

Aleister Crowley connected his slogan to the divine or higher self and not to the ego like many people think today. But here this is not really important as I want to point at something different.

So on the first view this sounds nice “Do what you want!” but on a second view you see also the message that no one cares what you do or want. You are left alone. You can do good and bad things, it lies in your responsibility. You can enjoy life and you can suffer, it lies again in your responsibility. No one cares. All is possible.

This apathy or indifference towards you and your situation and actions might be lawful as it is connected to your free will but it is not nice, not supportive, not caring, not a matter of empathy or compassion.

When we think now about the spiritual path then we meet again this laissez-faire attitude, the recognition of the official free will with all its coldness and indifference in attitude towards spiritual seekers and neophytes. Especially in secret societies this attitude is maintained. This means actually that all progress, all steps of enlightenment are completely left up to the aspirant and his abilities to understand higher truths, hidden meanings and certainly also his motivation to study and to undergo the training. In fact the aspirant can stay completely ignorant over decades and no one takes care. Or he can do the training in the wrong way, following wrong ideas and again no one shows empathy.

In conclusion the laissez-faire attitude shown by masters or teachers towards students and seekers is lawful but at the same time cold as ice and characterized by indifference and detachment. The heart with love and compassion are missing which are a matter of the mystic´s attitude. And here the student must be open for the love of the teacher. If there is no resonance, then the student cannot expect much.

So love is one main point, the holy, loving relationship between the master and his student. Without love there is no satsang, – no transfer of consciousness, enlightenment, no empowerment, no inspiration, no uplifting, etc.

And then we have the aspect of the authoritarian attitude. If the student as well as the teacher choose the laissez-fair attitude, the student can do whatever he likes but here his progress is limited to a minimum in the normal case. Only in rare cases where the student is already mature and powerful he will make great progress on his own. In contrast, when student and master choose the authoritarian attitude then the master pushes the student towards progress. This is most efficient. With respect to the higher laws, the student must give authority over himself to the master by his free will. This is certainly a matter of wisdom, trust and high ethics, also of true love.

In normal life we see such situations for example in the military training where aspirants are forced permanently to go beyond their limitations, beyond their comfort zone. In this way, the soldiers develop very fast superhuman skills which they need for fighting in war.

Another example can be found in all high-performance sports where the athletes are trained with much force in a most efficient way.

In all cases such a training is no fun and comes along with pains, doubts, etc. but the results are superior and in the end the top athletes are grateful for the authoritarian, pushing, merciless attitude of their trainers.

In conclusion, you have the choice between “do what you want and no one cares” and in best case the loving but also pushing/demanding attitude of your teacher. It is your choice how much progress you want to achieve and in which way you want to accomplish it.

Speaking for myself – I have always preferred the hard way – to make as much progress as possible in the shortest time. But I have kicked my own butt. This is an advantage of the warrior attitude.

And at last – if you want to belong to the best, to the top, then there is no other way than the hard, pushing way.

Think about the fitness center. Laissez-faire means to go and to do training as much and as often as you like or don´t like. The progress is questionable. The authoritarian way means regular training, schedules and getting your butt kicked hard by a personal trainer who puts you to the limits. The progress is efficient and visible but it is hard and painful.

Your choice!

Everything in life is always your choice!

Unterstand this principle!

By the way, life always works with the positive and the negative principle. While the positive principle attracts you to certain aims, the negative principle is kicking your butt to reach the aim.

The positive principle alone is not sufficient. People learn in main (only) by pain.
